Lantern-lit "Tales of the Roundhouse" returns with haunted tours and nighttime steam train ride on one special evening, Friday, October 19, 2018 with tours starting at 6:30 and 7 p.m. Led by engaging and entertaining guides, "Tales of the Roundhouse" participants will hear the real life and death tales of past railroad workers and passengers who lost their lives in ghastly accidents, gruesome train wrecks and sometimes by cold-blooded murder. To honor their service and celebrate the patriotic holiday Railtown 1897 is proud to offer veterans and active military personnel with complimentary excursion train rides plus complimentary Park admission on Sunday, November 11, 2018. Veteran and active military personnel are encouraged to wear their uniforms with pride while enjoying a special excursion train ride behind diesel locomotive No. 1265, a 1952 former Army diesel which last served at the Riverbank Army Ammunition Plant. Relive the magical journey of THE POLAR EXPRESS on an hour-long train ride to the North Pole. Enjoy hot-hot-hot chocolate and yummy cookies as you ride along with many of the story's characters. Once you reach the North Pole, the jolly old elf—Santa himself—will come on board to give each passenger a silver sleighbell, the "first gift of Christmas".
